Isle de France (Mauritius Island or Mauritius), 1759. Two slaves, Massamba and his daughter Mati, work, with fear and toil, on the plantation belonging to Eugène Larcenet. Massamba has only one desire: for his daughter to be set free. Mati has a crazy idea: to leave this hell. One night, she escapes. Eugène Larcenet counts on Madame La Victoire to bring her back. Massamba flees in turn, becoming a “maroon slave.” It is selected in the “Window on French Cinema” section of the 2024 Deauville American Film Festival, in a world premiere.
